Top tier hospitality at Stamford Marriott Hotel and Spa

The oversized lobby was partially occupied by flight attendants and pilots, relaxing and sharing jokes. It seemed only natural given that the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa is 20 miles from Westchester County Airport, 32 miles from LaGuardia Airport, and 38 miles from John F. Kennedy International Airport. The crew stops over often enough that the hotel staff knows their schedule and names.

Decorated in ruby reds and cream with hints of green and plum, the modernism hotel boasts over 500 rooms. Up, on the 16th floor, guests are treated to a concierge lounge. Computer stations, couches, and plenty of tables and chairs are available to get work done. Sit and watch TV while eating breakfast or dinner. Evening options during my stay included crab legs, pasta salad, and cut fruit.

In room 1604, a king size bed draped in white was quite comfortable. A high back chair and matching round ottoman, mini fridge, combination desk/dresser, and coffee/tea maker completed the room. Large windows looked out over the roads along with a view of Long Island Sound to the right. The bathroom offered choices, a standard or a rain shower head. Natural ingredient toiletries were lightly scented in aromatic wood and orange & tangerine by Thann.

I parked in the attached garage, brought my luggage to my room and checked into Agora Spa. Ladies' and men's spas are separated, including locker rooms, sitting rooms, and treatment areas. Spa guests are welcome to borrow sandals and robes and make use of the single-person sauna or showers.

I opted for a 25-minute reflexology session, regularly priced at $90. Laid on a warm bed, my feet wrapped in hot towels versus the more traditional foot soak which cleanses feet and softens skin. The masseuse treated each foot differently and found areas in need of more attention and stretched an ankle so it cracked.

Gloomy skies turned into heavy rain. Fortunately, Stamford Marriott offers complimentary shuttle service to Stamford Town Center (shopping and dining). Not only did I not worry about walking in the rain, but was lent an oversized umbrella to use while waiting to be picked up.

In the morning, oatmeal, bagels, hard-boiled eggs, bacon, and more, fed concierge-level guests. At check out, I inquired if the hotel kept additional toiletries on-hand. They do. If you run out of toothpaste or forget your toothbrush, ask at the front desk for replacements.

Everyone I met was courteous and professional. In about twenty hours, that was over a dozen employees. Security is a priority.  Although you might not see them, rest assured, they are present.
